Grandmaster Jung


Grandmaster Jung is the founder of the Korean Martial Arts Center. He began martial arts training in the 1960s, studying a variety of styles including Shotokan Karate, Judo, Kenpo, Taekwondo, and informally, more than a dozen Chinese styles, including Shao-lin, Bak-may, Wing-chun, Praying Mantis, and Hung-gar. Around 1967, when Hapkido was beginning to be introduced into America, Jung began studying the art under masters James Voeller and Man-Joon Rho, and later, under Grandmaster Han-Jae Ji and Master Hong-Soo Kim in Korea.

In 1984 Jung was instrumental in bringing Grandmaster Ji to the United States, and assisted him in establishing Sin Moo Hapkido. Master Jung has also trained extensively in Taekwondo since the 1970s, under Grandmaster Byong-Yong Yu, Grandmaster Soo-Woong Lee, and other masters in Korea. Jung currently holds the ranks of Senior Grandmaster (10th dan) in Hapkido, Master (8th dan) in Taekwondo, and Yodan (4th dan) in Judo, and has also earned black belts in Shotokan Karate and Kenpo. He is the former technical advisor for the California State Taekwondo Association, and has trained numerous state, regional, national and International champions.

Grand Master Jung is currently a consultant for Hapkido and Taekwondo. He is the senior member of Sin Moo Hapkido and currently a Panel Member for the World Culture Taekwondo – Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters), where he is decorated with numerous certifications, diplomas and awards in Korea.

Master Jung has appeared in television, Blackbelt magazine, several motion pictures (along with Chuck Norris), and martial arts video games for children (Nintendo, Epix, etc). He is a retired peace officer for the San Mateo County Probation Department.
