Taekwondo Coaches & Instructors


Master Thomas Mar instructs Taekwondo, Hapkido and oversees the Tiny Tigers program at KMAC’s headquarters in San Francisco. He has trained in Taekwondo for over 20 years under Grandmaster M.W. Jung.  As a youth Master Mar competed nationally in Taekwondo, he is now one of KMAC’s National Coaches and a head instructor for the Junior Competition Class. He is a certified 5th Degree Black belt instructor in Taekwondo, he also holds black belt ranks in other martial arts styles including Sin Moo Hapkido and Judo.

Master David Mangonon began his Martial Arts training at the age of 7.  The Mangonon family which includes his father Rufo and brother Mark Mangonon have trained under Grand Master M.W Jung since the early 80’s.  David holds ranks in Taekwondo and in Hapkido, and also has trained with Master Tim Ghormley (Stanford University TKD head coach) and Grandmaster Han Jae-Ji.   Once a national competitor, he is now one of KMAC’s National Coaches. He is a certified 4th degree black belt instructor in Taekwondo.

Master Jasmine Gong has been training with KMAC since 1997 and currently holds a 4th Degree Black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She has competed both locally and nationally, earning a double gold in the 2006 National Tae Kwon Do Junior Olympics. Although her specialty is Tae Kwon Do, Master Gong has trained in Judo, Arnis, Eskabo Daan, and Hapkido. Currently, she is proud to say that she teaches at two different martial arts clubs (KMAC-HQ and the Stonestown YMCA) in addition to running the Tae Kwon Do club at Jefferson Elementary. In 2012 Master Gong earned her Bachelors of Science in psychology and social action Summa Cum Laude, or with highest honors.
Assistant Instructor Mark Formalejo Jr., KMAC National team member and competitor, has been training at KMAC HQ since 2006 under Grandmaster M.W. Jung. Mark has competively represented KMAC in National and International competitions throughout the country. He currently assists teaching the Junior Competition and Tiny Tigers program. Mark is a certified 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo. He is also a member of the 2011 AAU US National Team.

Assistant Instructor Loren Louie, KMAC National team member and competitor, began training at KMAC in 2009 under Grandmaster M.W. Jung. She currently assists in teaching the Junior Competition and Tiny Tiger program at KMAC HQ. Loren is a 2010 USA Taekwondo National gold medalist, she is a certified 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo.
Assistant Instructor Alex Fogarty: Has been training in taekwondo since the age of 13, he’s been training under Grandmaster Jung since 2010. Alex is a Kukkiwon Certified 1st dan black belt and has recently received a medal at the 2012 U.S National Championships. Alex has also trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology.
Assistant Instructor Atef Karaja helps instruct the Tiny Tigers program and Hapkido at KMAC’s headquarters in San Francisco. He has been training under Grandmaster M.W. Jung since 2008. Atef is a certified 1st degree black belt in Taekwondo and Sin Moo Hapkido.
